Tom Bree

Tom Bree is a geometer-artist, teacher and writer. He specialises in the use of geometry as an artform as well as a symbolic language within spiritually orientated philosophy.

Tom teaches practical art classes in geometry-drawing for various organisations both here in the UK and abroad although he is primarily based at the Prince's Foundation School of Traditional Arts in London where he teaches on the MA programme and in classes for the public. Tom is about to publish 10 years of ground-breaking research about the medieval Christian use of the Quadrivial arts (Geometry, Cosmology, Music and Arithmetic) in the design of the first English Gothic Cathedral - St Andrews in Wells. The book is called The Cosmos in Stone. It focuses upon the ascent of the soul to Wisdom and how this was symbolically understood in 12th century Christianity through a lens of cosmic-Platonism in which the Christian storyline was artistically contemplated through perennial cosmic myths such as the rising of the Morning Star in the east and the ascent of the soul through the planetary spheres.

Tom is also starting the Wells Institute for Sophia Education (WISE), and there will be two courses, Descent into Darkness and Ascent into Light, taught by him and Valentin Gerlier in 2021-22. Click on the pdf link for more details: //
